A new jailbreak tweak is available on Cydia that will give your iPhone 6 some of the features in Samsung’s newest version of the Galaxy, which has been crushing the marketplace. Before you get too excited, remember, there is no way to replace iOS with an Android operating system. The best we can do is add features that are not yet available on Apple.
The Edge jailbreak tweak will be familiar to any of you who own the Galaxy 7 Edge or who have coveted it from afar. The coolest feature is the dual curved display on the side, which are programmable to the needs of the user. The Edge tweak for iOS gives you the ability to add configurable pages just as you would on the Galaxy. Customization is the name of the game, giving you the option of how you want to select your favorite apps or contacts.
Edge comes from DP Digital Darkroom The shortcuts allow you to do certain tasks in an app, like marking your location on Maps, taking a selfie with the Camera, or quickly accessing Mail, iMessage/SMS.
To use the tweak, you simply swipe left from the right side corner of the display. The layout can include up to four pages: App Edge, Recent Edge, Task Edge and People Edge. Accessing the pages is a snap, just by swiping left and right.
The purpose of the App Edge page is to organize your most-used apps. By tapping on a plus button that pops up, you can add the apps you want. The Tasks Edge page lets you create custom tasks, like creating new contacts, taking a new photo or opening another tab in Safari.
Removing apps from the pages operates a lot like iOS. By tapping and holding on the app, the app icon begins to wiggle and an X appears. Clicking the X removes the app.
Cydia’s BigBoss repository for $1.99. The tweak is compatible with devices running iOS 9 and above. There are free tweaks that do similar things, but Edge is the one that is most comprehensive. Although it won’t speed up your animations or other processes, it will give you a little of that Samsung mojo – if you don’t feel like that makes you an iPhone traitor!
Before jailbreaking, make sure your device is on iOS 9, but do not upgrade your device to iOS 9.3 since there is still not an untethered jailbreak. Always back up your device before installing or jailbreaking.
